    An inspirational O-week at Monash.

Who said that students don't care?

Orientation Carnival was amazing. Despite the 30 degree days, members from various Monash clubs and societies were out there in the sun, selling their clubs to potential new recruits. Walking around the stalls, you could see the hard work everybody had put in for their clubs. Every stall looked fantastic, the energy of all the members was high, everyone was smiling, happy, even though they were tired, dehydrated and sweaty even. The Japanese club were all dressed up in their trad. costumes, on the first day they cooked for students, the second day they performed a really cool dance for everyone. The Indian club had really succeeded in raising inkind for their stalls. They handed out real Domino's pizza's. Another club gave out Krispy Kremes. Then you had ASEAN who were all wearing matching sunnies and looking like they were having the best time- they probably were. Another highlight was the gigantic Jenga block student services (i think) had. Imagine...life size Jenga pieces! I tried once, I nearly ruined it!! The karate (or some martial arts) club did demos on the lawn, the Optus girls actually walked up to all our stalls...even Coffee HQ had the most sexiest Coffee Bean mascot doing rounds in such hot weather. Some guy walked around with a free hugs sign, there was a live band and plenty of free stuff was given out.

Then there was AIESEC. Bit biased since I am from AIESEC.

The dedication and love we all have for AIESEC is never as evident than it is during recruitment. Big O came all the way to Clayton to go to her class but she skipped it to help out with our stall. After Raj climbed out of his Coffee Been suit (musta been like 50 degrees in that suit), he came right over to our stall to help out, some of us skipped work for it, Murad had one million things to do and one million things to deal with and yet he still made it to our stall, Gen pretty much spent all day doing AIESEC, even though she had a night shift she had to rush to, I never saw Richie eat, he was so tired but he never showed it! (Actually did any of us eat?) Daz was there to help out with everything, Daz is always there for us!!! Heidi trained from Melbourne stalls to help us with our stalls, Kid travelled all the way to Clayton by himself (even though he's been here for like less than a week!) some of us would stay way into the night in a stuffy AIESEC office stuffing showbags, but we always remained energetic, happy and passionately AIESEC! And everyone did it, not because we had to- but because we wanted to, because we love AIESEC, because we love our LC, because we love our region, because we love each other, because we love Monash and this is getting a bit sad.

If anyone tells you that students don't care. They are wrong. Just look at all the student clubs and societies!

My dilemma: Optus, Vodaphone or Optus???

Currently I am working at Optus and my manager wants to shift me to Vodaphone because they have serious staffing issues over there. The reason they chose me was- cause I can speak mandarin?????? absolutely hilarious-> Still can't believe I got away with lying during my interview!!! Surprised they haven't realised yet that I don't really understand mandarin.

Anyways, now that such an opportunity has presented itself, today I am suppose to tell my manager my final decision.

Weighing in the pros and the cons....I have decided to go to Vodaphone or Optus.

    Pros + Cons: Optus
    - The staff are awesome
    - Easier to sell phones + DSL
    - People trust Optus
    - Promotions are always on
    - Since I have been there for like a month already, I know all the products and promotions through and through
    - Real dickheads come to Optus. Get abused like everyday
    - Stock is never ordered
    - Optus Customer service drives me nutters
    - Still don't know how to deal with Strathfield customers

    Pros and Cons: Vodaphone:
    - The customers apparently are much nicer
    - Can always go back to Optus if not liking it there
    - There's this one girl I think I might have trouble working with over there (I've told my manager about this...)
    - Same crap pay, crap commission (although my manager worked really hard to get it for us), hours, pretty much its all the same
    - I can say I worked for Vodaphone
    - Paid training!
    - I have to relearn all the deals and crap
    - Potentially better in the long term- could get more hours simply because I would know how to work in both shops
    - Harder to sell vodaphone
    - Relaxing job, my manager told me about how she did her homework when she was at Vodaphone

........or Optus (another one....wait I'll get to that)

FIRSTLY: A little history about me and Optus:

2005: I sat through five days of training down at Queen Street to work as a sales rep for Optus. I went to China (and they knew!) And someone else took my job before I even got to start it!!!

2005: Through a recruitment company- I went to train as a sales rep, as I got there I realised that we were selling Optus again so I sucked it in and sat through 3 days of training for them. I lasted for three months in the job before I quit. They still owe me like $150.00

2007: With current employers now: I sat through two days of training. Have been working there for one month already.

    SHould I?
Go through another 5 days of training? For another job in Optus...this is all becoming a little ridiculous for me...
    ......

In a way: I really don't want to sort of change from Optus (again)

    This other Optus:

Emmas like telling me about this call centre shes applying for. Which is...also in boxhill, Optus as well, better pay too (like double what I am getting now) They are taking applications now....

But am I ready to sit through another five days of Optus training (cause that is a prerequisites of this job) especially since....i may not get paid for it...and since...I've sat through soo many Optus training already and since I pretty much know my Optus shit.

    Pros and Cons:
    - Working with Emma (could be either)
    - More pay, more commissions
    - More abuse, hard to sell
    - Its a risk: I don't want to quit again from another Optus job becuase what if this does not work out? Theres no going back
    - Apparently its not dodgy
    - New centre
    - Still at Box Hill
    - No pay for training
    - You can always just hang up on dickheads
    - More stressful.

    Argh..

The strip club, the massage and the new year

    The Strip club
On Friday night, after Nick's birthday drinks, a couple of us went down to Goldfingers, which apparently is one of the best strip joints in Melbourne. Anyways, for $18 a head, we were in! One of the first things that struck me was that apart from me, Emma, Tamara and Lyn, all the other girls were wearing lingerie or bras/panties, which meant that they were most likely to be working that night. It was a bit confronting at first, even though I kinda did expect it. For like the whole night it was hard to really look at anyone, it was a bit awkward to look at any guy, we didn't want to make eye contact with guys we didn't know- and some of the guys were kinda scary looking. Even making eye contact with our guy friends was a bit awkward at first, so us girls just kinda stuck together the whole night.

You would think that at goldfingers, the girls would all be of high quality and even though there were some really hot girls, the majority of the girls there were quite average really and there were a few shockers as well (this isn't my sole opinion either) Sometimes you just felt really sorry for the girls that got no attention, sometimes the guys would just turn their heads away and then the other guys would do the same. I noticed that mostly the more average, bigger or older looking girls would hit on the guys at the bar whilst the better looking ones were the ones on the tables or with "customers", they didn't really have to work hard to get customers- its like the real world in a sick kind of way.

It was a good night, the bday boy got a few lapdances with two really hot girls. Surprisingly, one of my girlfriends got a random lap dance by this stripper (she sort of just sat on her and began humping her) I will refrain from naming who my friend is because she was affected by it (negatively) she felt dirty and used afterwards- especially since stranger males were watching pervertingly. So to this friend: I am sorry for laughing and not being able see how affected you were by it at the time.

    The massage:

Today Yi shouted me a massage down at South Melbourne, it was such a good massage, really relaxing- I never wanted it to end to be honest. Thanks Yi!!! I think we both needed it, I needed a de-stress and she injured her shoulder from playing Wii (She told her masseuse that she got injured from tennis hehe) I had never got a professional massage before so at first it was a little unnerving, especially since i had to strip down to my underpants. I was also nervous cause I get ticklish and also afraid of pain. But as soon as she started rubbing the massage oil on I relaxed and had the best 45 minutes ever!!!

    The New Year:

I thought new years was yesterday...but you know don't worry about that. Today my mum and I went to box hill to have our new years meal. It was disgusting. My mum ordered this dish that she loves which is essentially pieces of fish floating around in chilli oil. She also ordered fried sweet pumpkin (instead of rice!). I felt so sick. At first I nearly choked cuz the chili was really hot (I got over it though) but what made me sick was the oil. So to make up for it, I would eat it with fried sweet pumpkin. So essentially we basically had fried sweet pumpkin and chilli fish and a whole lotta water. EYUeeekkk!!!!! I normally wouldn't mind eating anything- I can even tolerate durian to a certain extent, but tonight I literally couldn't finish it and my mum was forcing me to eat it so I had this really sour face on (and she got cut sigh*)

To make the night worse, my mum tells me that I look like this waiteress who works there. I kept staring at the waiteress and she was seriously so ugly. I kept thinking to myself- Has my mirror been lying to me the whole time?????? Do I really look like that? I mean the waiteress had this big head and a moustache. Maybe thats why I felt so sick!!! Sigh* Oh and my mum made me wear this fobby tshirt because she thinks I look good in it (I really dont- i look like a fob)
